![]() They remained at Rivendell with many other Elves who were not yet ready to leave Middle-earth. ![]() ![]() The sons of Elrond, who were supposed to choose whether to leave Middle-earth with their father or remain and become mortal, appear to have been allowed to defer that choice (according to Tolkien in a letter). It would seem not, as Glorfindel is not mentioned among the list of Elves who depart. Some people have wondered if these were the last of the Noldor to leave Middle-earth. At the end of The Lord of the Rings Elrond, Galadriel, Gildor Inglorion, and “many High Elves” leave Middle-earth in a great white ship that sets sail from Mithlond (it was probably much larger than the ship depicted in the Peter Jackson movie). ![]() ![]() Tolkien, some Elves remain in Middle-earth.
